The autofocus is very fast and very accurate but not as quiet as some of the other AF-S lenses I've used, may just be my lens.
VR operation offers the equivalent of using a shutter speed 3 stops faster. In addition, active vibration mode selection is possible. For using in an active situation such as in a car, boat or plane.
The VR operation does work, but don't expect for this to make up for bad technique or terrible conditions. Personally it's been my experience that the VR function is hit or miss. I some times wonder if my hands are too steady for the VR to operate effectively. VR helps, but it is only an aid, not a miracle.
5 ED elements reduce chromatic aberrations providing superior optical performance - even at maximum aperture.
Image quality is potentially superb at all reasonable aperture settings,
even at F2.8. Keep in mind some decent skill is still required to make proper
use of the shallow depth of field F2.8 provides.
In
skilled hands this lens will do everything one would expect it to do.
Rounded diaphragm (9 blades) for natural blur
Bokeh is likely best in it's class, out of focus areas are perfectly smooth with no odd highlights.
My experiences with the Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR zoom lens have been positive. I won't say this lens is the answer to all your photography prayers, it requires skill to use well. This lens comes with a pretty hefty price tag and I can't honestly say it's completely worth it when compared to the much more affordable alternatives. I will suggest this is the best lens in this class, just perhaps not so much better to justify the price. The Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 is a safe bet, if you can afford it then by all means this is the lens for you. If you're on a budget and don't shoot professionally, shop around.
