American Politics
Rusty Dodson
It is past due for Americans to take back our country! We have let our government run amuck with our futures and the price is getting higher every day. The current administration has been one of the most destructive in history. This article however is not about republican verses democrat; in all honesty I can’t say I’ve seen tremendous results from either party lately. Both parties seem too busy deconstructing the others efforts to actually accomplish anything worthwhile. However for the purpose of this article I will be referring to our government as the current administration.
People have seem to have forgotten that this is our government and it can be somewhat controlled. I am extremely disturbed by the current administrations short term ideals and often false pretences. Our government is being run by ego and corporate profits. Anybody with corporate operations knowledge can easily spot the fact that our government is catering to immediate short term corporate profits and overlooking long term American success. Of course the obvious problem with this is the average person with that knowledge is in favor of the administration. The current administration attempts to cure economical woes with “right now economics” which may in fact lead to some job creation, but not long term economical growth. Creating low paying jobs with poor or no benefits will not solve long term economical faults. In the long run this will likely cause a larger deficit and even lower profits for American corporations; we’re back to less money earned, less money spent.
America needs to reinvent the true patriot. A true patriot doe’s not waste time insisting on the greatness of ones country, a true patriot asks how we can make it better! A wise challenger does not only insist on their superiority over the enemy but also considers what one might learn from the enemy. True patriotism is missing from our countries leaders. We need leaders that ask what we can do to make our country great and stay great. We have got to make it known that we don’t want “right now economics” and sound bite fixes. We want stability that lasts.
Not only is the current administration short changing our economy it is totally abandoning our environment. What people really have to understand is the environment isn’t a liberal, hug a tree save a whale issue; it’s a human survival issue. Our current government leaders refuse to follow environmental standards. Our government has even refused to go with the clean air act (Kyoto protocol) under guise of protecting American jobs. Neglecting environmental issues in favor of short term corporate profits will result in long term economical disaster. Even the seemingly insignificant creatures play vital roles in the ecological system. For example, fresh water muscles play a vital part in filtering water sources. It will cost billions and take decades to restore water quality after we destroy these clam beds. Some other examples are snakes, people hate them, but if we continue to destroy snake habitat we will be loosing one of our greatest resources for keeping destructive rodent populations down. The cost of safeguarding our agriculture industry from rats will cost billions of dollars and the use of toxic chemicals. These are just a few examples of a catastrophic problem.
One may ask oneself, how can we change things. We can’t make our government consider our best interests. But we can, leaders are only leaders if they are followed. If America voices its will, e-mail, fax and call your representatives. Make it clear what America needs at the polls. Politicians are addicted to the idea of power as much as anything else, make an example of those that don’t have our best interests in mind, don’t re-elect them. Show those trying to get into power who we will and will not support. Do so with your voice, letters and your vote!
As with all my Random Ramblings, this is an ongoing thought process that will grow and develop with time.
